JoEllen Flanagan Engelbart

JoEllen Flanagan Engelbart, 32, of Kansas City, MO passed away on January 2nd, 2021. JoEllen gave birth to her baby boy, Ross, whom she delivered three months prematurely on Dec. 29.

JoEllen was joyful, intelligent, and full of love, with a captivating personality that was beloved by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and the countless others she had an impact on. 

JoEllen graduated from Raymore-Peculiar High School. After high school she attended Truman State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, followed by the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), where she earned a J.D. at the School of Law and a master’s degree in Public Administration.

JoEllen worked as an Assistant Prosecutor for the Jackson County Prosecutor’s office, which she joined in 2015 after completing an internship. Most recently, she served as a passionate advocate for victims of crime in the Special Victims Unit, where she helped to protect and defend victims of child abuse and domestic violence. JoEllen was dedicated to public service and doing good in the world. She spent significant time volunteering in the community and was actively involved in numerous non-profit organizations.  

JoEllen’s family requests donations to be made out to KCMBF's Student Law Academy in lieu of flowers. JoEllen was closely involved with and was deeply passionate about the program. JoEllen was a Student Law Academy committee member, presenter, and an SLA Mentor.
